MicroRNA Dysregulations in Gastrointestinal Cancers: Pathophysiological and Clinical Perspectives

چکیده
cancer and the intestinal type of gastric cancer usually follows stepwise progression with recognizable pre-neoplastic changes (i.e., adenoma and intestinal metaplasia for colorectal and gastric cancers, respectively). Therefore, screening and early diagnosis remain the preferred options to ease the disease burden. Surgical resection is the mainstay treatment for gastrointestinal cancers. Other treatment modalities, such as chemotherapy, radiation therapy and novel targeted therapy, have also been devised for the management of gastrointestinal cancers. Nevertheless, the prognosis for advanced stage patients with metastatic lesions is still very poor. Therefore, a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the molecular pathogenesis of gastrointestinal cancers and thus the development of next-generation targeted cancer therapeutics are needed. Despite the complex interactions among different etiological factors, the pathogenesis of cancer converges on the dysregulation of intracellular signals. Important dysregulated signaling pathways in gastrointestinal cancers include the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)/Ras/Raf/mitogen-activated MicroRNA Dysregulations in Gastrointestinal Cancers: Pathophysiological and Clinical Perspectives

Human papillomavirus and gastrointestinal cancer in Iranian population: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Background: Gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies are the most common cancers and account for nearly half of all cancer-related deaths in Iran. There was a strong association between human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and urogenital cancers, in particular the cervix. However, there is no clear causal relationship in all types of cancers, including gastrointestinal cancers. Therefore, the present...
متن کاملA survey of postoperative antibiotic prescription in gastrointestinal cancers in the Tehran-based Firoozgar Hospital in 2014
Introduction: This study aims to present the pattern of antibiotics administration in Firoozgar Hospital as an example of how antibiotics are administered in Iranian hospitals. The pattern is compared with the proposed model in the literature and relevant guidelines to determine the extent to which errors are committed in this regard. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 72 cancer patients ...
متن کاملThe Epidemiology of Gastrointestinal Cancers in Elderly of East-Azerbaijan Province (2006)
Objectives: Globally, gastrointestinal cancers are the most common cancers in the older population aged 65 and older. Due to such high prevalence, this study aimed to provide the incidence rate of these cancers in such population and observe the changing impact of these cancers with increasing age versus young adult (15 to 44) and middle age (45 to 64) groups. Methods & Materials: A populati...

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common types of cancers worldwide. Despite the improved therapeutic and diagnostic strategies and screening programs, morbidity and mortality of CRC is still considerable. Currently, most common approaches for diagnosis of CRC are colonoscopy and fecal occult blood test (FOBT). Because of the invasive nature of colonoscopy and low sensitivity of FOBT, ...

Objective(s): microRNA-29 (miR-29) family miRNAs have been mentioned as tumor suppressive genes in several human cancers. The purpose of this study was to investigate the function of miR-29a in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) cells. Materials and Methods: Human NPC cell line 5-8F was transfected with mimic, inhibitor or scrambled controls...
